Job Description


This position will primarily support Major League Soccer’s business ventures initiative and corporate departments.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal advice to business ventures team on emerging categories, including on opportunities related to on-field player performance, digital fan engagement, stadium technology enhancements and media production technology.
  • Advise on commercial transaction structures and equity investment opportunities, including coordinating review with internal stakeholders across departments.
  • Draft and negotiate transaction documents from term sheet stage to execution of definitive agreements.
  • Manage league policies in emerging categories, including developing and integrating policy updates and supporting clubs and internal business units with policy interpretation and compliance.
  • Support all MLS equity investment activity, including negotiation of investment documentation (share purchase agreements, stockholder agreements, LLC agreements, etc.) and ongoing management of investor rights.
  • Manage MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, MLS NEXT and Soccer United Marketing corporate entity structuring and intercompany agreements.
  • Assist with review of MLS, MLS NEXT Pro and MLS NEXT expansion opportunities.
  • Work cross-functionally to identify risks and provide practical and creative legal guidance.

Additional Responsibilities

Perform special projects and other assignments.


Education and Experience

  • 6+ years of experience at a leading law firm and/or corporate legal department
  • Bachelor’s Degree and JD
  • Admission to the NY State Bar

Required Skills

  • Ability to make timely, nuanced recommendations for business decisions based on reasoned legal analysis and the strategic objectives of the organization
  • Commercial approach to advising business teams
  • Outstanding written and oral business communication skills
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills, including experience with commercial transactions
  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail, necessary to support and advise business units and ensure projects are completed in a timely and effective manner
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment

Desired Skills

  • Spanish and/or French language skills (business proficiency)
  • Knowledge and interest in the sport of soccer

Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary $180,000 - $200,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
