The Premier League is looking for a senior commercial solicitor to work in its in-house IP enforcement team, assisting the business in protecting its intellectual property rights around the World. This will include working across the team’s civil and criminal litigation against those infringing the Premier League’s audiovisual rights, as well as managing the Premier League’s trade mark portfolio and brand protection program.

You will support the Head of Legal – Enforcement and the wider enforcement team in formulating and implementing enforcement strategies to protect the Premier League’s audio-visual rights.
The enforcement team is at the forefront of anti-piracy initiatives and engages in legal, technological, education, and lobbying measures in order to combat the piracy of Premier League content.
The role will involve working across all elements of the team’s litigation against those infringing the Premier League’s intellectual property. In particular, this will include:
Leading the team’s enforcement efforts against infringing commercial premises in the UK and Ireland
Assisting with the team’s other civil and criminal IP litigation outside of Asia Pacific
Overseeing the Premier League’s trade mark portfolio and advising the business on any related issues
Management and day-to-day responsibility for the Premier League’s anti-counterfeiting and brand protection program
Managing certain key internal and external relationships in the above areas, including investigative agencies and legal counsel
You will be required to work independently and be expected to oversee a variety of cases and related enforcement actions. Your efforts will be part of a broader global strategy and will involve regular liaison with other members of the enforcement team (in both the London and Singapore Offices) and external counsel.
Requirements for the role
High-quality academic background and robust legal training from a reputable law firm or recognised in-house legal department
Qualified solicitor of approximately 3-5 years’ post qualification experience (candidates outside this range with the required skills will also be considered)
Excellent knowledge and application of Intellectual Property laws, particularly copyright and trade mark
Experience in litigation, preferably in IP enforcement matters
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal issues and solutions in an articulate, precise and clear manner to individuals from all levels of the business
Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to manage external suppliers and meet tight deadlines
An ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team, with a proactive approach to all tasks and responsibilities
Familiarity with the issues and challenges facing the Premier League, particularly around piracy and the streaming of media across different delivery mechanisms
Experience of working as part of a busy in-house legal department
Demonstrable interest in and understanding of the football and broadcasting industries
