Position Summary: The Director of Medical Services/Head Athletic Trainer will:
Manage the day-to-day Sports Medicine operations for Washington Spirit.
Support the team as an ATC or PT.
In collaboration with the Performance and Medical team, develop injury prevention strategies, evaluation, treatment and return to play strategies for Washington Spirit players.
Support and develop women as women.
Work closely with the Technical, Medical and Performance Multi-Disciplinary Team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct and manager other Medical staff such as: Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapist, Soft Tissue/Massage Therapists.
Provide ATC, or PT, support to players during all training sessions and games, with travel required.
Direct the health care of players, which includes, but is not limited to: first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, developing rehabilitation and prevention programs, as well as conducting rehabilitation and making medical referrals.
Responsible for daily operations, budgets, program growth and development of Medical provision at Washington Spirit.
Lead on the communication, management, and integration of external Medical providers.
Electronically document accurate first report of injury, physician diagnosis, player assessments, player treatments, and return to play dates
Initiate insurance/worker's compensation claims for Players
Order, maintain and inventory supplies and clinical equipment.
Manage the athletic training room environment.
Maintain a complete and up to date roster of player health and participation records in League-provided electronic medical record system.
Comply with all NWSL medical policies and protocols, including attending meetings as appropriate.
Comply with OSHA Standards with regards to bloodborne pathogens.
In collaboration with the Performance and Medical staff create and monitor off-season training programs.
Support and develop staff to become industry leading practitioners through a consistent performance review process.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Performance and Research Innovation, and Performance and Medical staff to provide Multi-Disciplinary support, and education, by implementing and monitoring optimal female health, wellbeing, recovery, physical profiling, strength and conditioning, training and match load monitoring, nutrition, psychology, and return to play strategies.
Under the guidance of the Executive Director of Performance and the Director of Performance and Research Innovation, collaborate with the Performance and Medical staff in the review, development and co-ordination of Applied Performance and Medical research projects, contributing to an evolving world leading High Performance support program.
Manage and mentor assistant ATCs, PT, PhD students, undergraduate student volunteers, and interns.
Attend and assist with workshops, in-service meetings, professional development courses/workshops and other development opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Licenses or Certifications:
NATABOC (or CATA) Certified Athletic Trainer OR PT License/Certification.
In good standing with NATABOC and a member of the NATA (or CATA) – if ATC trained
Licensed to practice in the State of DC and VA.
Current professional CPR certification.
Possess personal professional liability insurance.
You should possess:
Minimum five (5) years certified athletic trainer OR physical therapist
Minimum four (4) year college/university bachelor's degree
Master’s degree in health-related field is essential.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of sports medicine.
Experience working with female athletes, with an understanding of female physiology.
Medical soccer experience with elite athletes (exception may be granted for experience in other professional sports).

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Enthusiastic and energetic team player, with experience working as part of a Multi-Disciplinary team.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a high degree of emotional intelligence.
A strong work ethic and friendly demeanor.
Knowledge of NWSL and International soccer.
Possess exceptional organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize/multi-task.
Strong PC skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and experience using Electronic Medical Records, and Athlete management Systems such as Kitman Labs.
Ability to work non-traditional hours, including scheduled games that can/will be weekends, evenings and perhaps Holidays.
