Job Description

The NWSL office is growing to meet the demands of the changing global landscape of professional women's soccer. We are looking for individuals who desire to make an impact on the future of sport in the United States and internationally.

Position Description

The Chief of Staff (COS) will provide operational and strategic support for the Commissioner of the NWSL. The COS work to increase the bandwidth and velocity of the Commissioner in such a way as to concentrate her time, effort, and priorities on strategic initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Executive project oversight: Acts on the authority of the office of the Commissioner to oversee strategic projects with a primary focus on initiatives affecting output that typically require cross functional resource allocation. This person should be an integrator in connecting work streams that would otherwise remain siloed.
  • "Ambassador" for the Commissioner, managing internal and external stakeholders; acting to screen and project manage important initiatives.
  • Support the Commissioner in managing preparation for all Board of Governors communications and meetings.
  • Prepares Commissioner and other senior leadership with insights and guidance that impact the league's success, credibility, and strategic priorities.
  • Oversees a central data repository for capturing, cataloging, analyzing, and disseminating key lessons and resources.
  • Facilitates the process of project solicitation, selection, prioritization, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Maintains the league's Strategic Plan and facilitates the annual planning processes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business and/or related field required.
  • Demonstrated ability of exercising discretion when handling highly confidential information.
  • Business acumen to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously mixing long term projects with the urgency of immediate demands on the operations.
  • Instills trust, confidence and credibility in process and decision-making by exhibiting consistent and methodical approaches to workflow.
  • Exhibit the skills to collaborate with and achieve actionable results through others, the ability to build strong and sustainable relationships and the capability to interact within all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to increase organizational effectiveness by facilitating discussion, soliciting input from diverse perspectives, and making recommendations with a clear focus on being able to explain the reasoning.

Desired Qualifications

On a personal level, this individual must be self-confident and resilient. The candidate will possess the seasoning and maturity that comes with experience, combined with a high energy level and enthusiasm. This executive must have the presence, visibility and record of accomplishment that will enable them to immediately establish credibility both within the organization and externally.
