Our Organisation

The Football Association [The FA] is the not-for-profit governing body of football in England. It is responsible for promoting and developing every level of the game, from grassroots through to the professional game, and generates significant revenue to support investment into English football each year.

The FA oversees England international teams across men's, women's, youth and disability football, as well as running the National League System and FA Competitions including the Emirates FA Cup, Barclays FA Women's Super League, FA Women's Championship, and Vitality Women's FA Cup, and the world-class facilities of Wembley Stadium and St. George's Park, all with a purpose to Unite the Game and Inspire the Nation.

The Role

An exciting and challenging role has arisen for a lawyer to advise on, prepare and present cases that fall within The FA's regulatory remit.

These cases involve parties subject to The FA's jurisdiction, including players, managers, clubs and intermediaries. The cases also cover all conduct within The FA's jurisdiction, including on-field behaviour, crowd control, anti-doping, match-fixing, betting, financial misconduct, discrimination, media comments, and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

Key Accountabilities

Reporting to the Head of Regulatory Legal Department the key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing legal advice and support to investigations, including the gathering of evidence and formulating charges.
  • Preparing and presenting cases dealt with by The FA's Regulatory Commissions and Appeal Boards.
  • Providing advice to The FA, County Football Associations and other stakeholders on regulatory and disciplinary issues.
  • Execute additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.
What we are looking for
  • Candidates must possess a legal qualification (qualified Barrister, Solicitor or equivalent) in addition to considerable advocacy skills and experience gained in an adversarial setting.
  • Significant experience of providing advice on investigations and the strength of evidence, preferably in a sports law or other regulatory or professional disciplinary context, is essential.
  • Candidates should also be able to demonstrate significant litigation case management experience.
  • Candidates must be flexible and adaptable, willing to handle a wide range of cases, and possess the ability to work in an extremely fast paced environment, often under intense media scrutiny, in order to meet strict deadlines when required.
  • The successful candidate must be a team player able to work collaboratively with the investigations unit and the wider Football Regulation and Administration Division.
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to communicate well at all levels and work effectively both as part of a team and autonomously, using their own initiative. A knowledge and understanding of football is highly desirable.
What we can offer you
  • An exciting and challenging role within a changing, dynamic and world-renowned sports organisation.
  • Attractive benefits and a competitive salary.
