As a member of USL’s Communications department, the Communications & Content Manager serves as the primary liaison for USL W League and USL Super League clubs, a key media contact for inquiries pertaining to the USL women's pathway, assists in the maintenance of W League & Super League social channels and website – including writing, editing and publishing content, and monitoring matches. This Manager works directly with other departments in the USL organization, including Digital and Operations, and supports all USL communications and public relations initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Develop and cultivate positive, productive relationships with national, local, and international media members and influencers who cover/publicize USL W League & Super League and/or other USL properties.
Serve as the primary contact for USL W League & Super League, as well as a secondary contact for other USL properties.
Create and maintain a proactive pitch calendar for national and international media outlets on topics related to women’s soccer and deliver consistent, beneficial coverage of USL W League & Super League and its clubs.
Act as the primary liaison between USL Communications and USL W League & Super League clubs, including expansion teams.
Support senior members of USL Communications department in securing national media interviews, speaking engagements and strategic public appearances for the USL’s top executives for the women’s pathway.
Lead or assist with organizational PR strategies and execution for USL W League & Super League and the USL women’s pathway and provide communications guidance and support on related initiatives and partnerships.
Create and manage media lists targeted specifically to maximize coverage of the USL W League & Super League and the USL women's pathway and distribute press releases.
Create and share internal communications with clubs to ensure consistent messaging across league and club channels and spokespeople. Inform and prepare clubs for USL Communications announcements.
Serve as the USL HQ contact for internal and external communication of player transactions among USL W League & Super League clubs.
Establish and maintain the brand voice for USL W League & Super League and other USL properties as needed.
Serve as primary writer, editor, and content creator for USL W League & Super League web and social content and collaborate with team members on web and social content for other USL properties.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field preferred.
2-5 years of relevant work experience in a related field and/or training required.
Positive attitude, strong work ethic and a team-first mentality.
Outstanding organization, time management, attention to detail, and professionalism.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with emphasis on writing, editing and editorial judgment.
Significant knowledge of North American soccer, specifically women’s soccer, and USL highly preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members, executives, member clubs, and external partners.
Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office, a basic working knowledge of content management systems.
Familiarity with multiple social media platforms and related best practices. Previous experience publishing social media content preferred.
Ability to work proactively in a multi-faceted, fast, fluid, and deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work as business needs require which may include long days, evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel if / when necessary.
Must have U.S. work authorization.
