The Football Association (The FA) is the governing body of football in England. We are responsible for promoting and developing the game at all levels; from grassroots through to the professional game, The Emirates FA Cup and the England international teams. We have two core assets: Wembley Stadium and St. George's Park.

To deliver against our goal we have reallocated resources and invested heavily in developing a team of exceptional people capable of creating winning England teams at our world-class training facilities at St. George's Park in Staffordshire.

Role Description
  • This role is responsible for the creation, management and oversight of proactive communications strategies for England women's senior and development teams including participation at major tournaments
  • Requires travel to all senior fixtures and major tournaments and high levels of engagement with national and international media
  • Provides support across all England teams and ensures a joined-up approach with men's technical and St. George's Park
  • Understands and internally communicates high risk corporate reputation issues for The FA emanating from the England team environment

 

Please note that the primary location for the role is at the National Football Centre, St. George's Park. Regular travel to Wembley and international travel will also be required.

Key Accountabilities
  • Deliver and manage official England Head Coach and player media activity in support of team performance – liaison with management, journalists, clubs, agents, commercial partners as well as internal partners in the Technical, Commercial, Marketing and Governance teams.
  • Develop player and coach media capability with ongoing review and assessment of individual media training needs.
  • Respond to and manage interview and appearance requests for England squad/Head Coaches all year round and manage the public profile of support teams, the Director of Women's Football and Head of Women's Technical in relation to England activity.
  • Manage reactive stories in relation to England teams, utilising strong crisis management skills and experience while ensuring strong internal communication.
  • Act as the main team spokesperson, provide media briefings (written and verbal) and chair Head Coach and player media conferences and, working with media operations colleagues, manage logistical and accreditation requirements where needed
  • Oversee England player personal appearance media activity throughout the year in conjunction with The FA commercial division.
  • Devise and deliver creative opportunities for senior players to connect with fans, for example FA charity activity and FA grassroots initiatives.
  • Responsible for England squad announcements and updates – smooth, professional communication across all media platforms.
  • Provide editorial support and contributions for FA owned channels and create website and programme promotion opportunities for England teams as required and help manage editorial output, specifically around England activities.
  • Maintain and develop key relationships with media and editorial contacts, St. George's Park stakeholders and event owners on an ongoing basis. Close liaison with key external stakeholders when communicating messages in particularly sensitive areas: clubs, leagues, UEFA, FIFA, agents etc.
  • Deal with general media enquiries for The FA Group as required.
  • Execute additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
What we are looking for

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience in working closely with players and coaching staff, preferably within an elite team environment
  • Proven ability in senior spokesperson role
  • Excellent media contacts book
  • Experience of dealing with national and international media in complex and fast-paced environments
  • Experience of co-ordinating and managing PR campaigns
  • Experience of co-ordinating and managing media conferences
  • Experience of managing people and teams
  • Experience of managing senior executives
  • Experience of managing and operating within a multiple stakeholder environment
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communications skills
  • Excellent writing skills

Desirable

  • Relevant (specialism e.g. Communications) experience or PR/Media qualification/degree
  • CIPR Membership (or equivalent)
  • Excellent knowledge of football and its structures at all levels
  • Understanding of social and other new media platforms
