Job Description

West Ham United Foundation (WHUF) is seeking an NCS Officer to contribute to the set up and delivery of the NCS (National Citizen Service) programme. The role will include supporting the NCS Manager to develop strong and meaningful partnerships with a range of stakeholders and oversee the delivery of an outstanding programme of activities across East London.

 

Supported by the UK Government, the NCS is a voluntary personal and social development programme for 15–17 year olds that aims to give them the confidence, skills and platform to make a difference within their local communities.

 

We are looking for an exceptional project officer with a passion for youth work and the commitment and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of the young people. 

 

Where appropriate, the role will also be required to support other projects across the wider Foundation. 

 
 

Key Responsibilities:

 

*         Support the set up and delivery of the NCS programme.

*         The recruitment of young people to the NCS programme.

*         Coordinate the delivery of “recruitment” events and “keep warm” activities for young people that will ensure a high turn up rate on programme.

*         To market and promote NCS within a variety of community settings including schools and colleges.

*         Support the recruitment, training and management of seasonal staff.

*         Contribute to the design of the programme activity timetable.

*         Arrange and deliver exciting and challenging activities to engage young people throughout the programme.

*         Support the engagement of a range of community partners to add value to social action projects, and help maximise the impact of the NCS programme.

*         Monitor and record young people’s engagement using the designated CRM system/s.

*         Understand and comply with the safeguarding and risk management processes and procedures.

*         Deputise for NCS Manager when appropriate.

*         Undertake any other relevant duties related to the further development, promotion, and sustainability of the programme.

*         Contribute to the wider development of the WHU Foundation and Learning department.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas: - Essential (E) Desirable (D)

 

Education/Qualifications/Experience:

 

*       Educated to Degree level in relevant subject and/or Youth Work qualification – L3 or above (E)

*       Safeguarding/Child Protection Training and First Aid (will be provided in post if not already done) (D)

*       Experience of working with young people (particularly 15-17 year olds) and an understanding of the issues they face. (E)

*       Experience of developing and contributing to community focused projects. (D)

*       Experience of working on the NCS programme. (D)

*       Experience / knowledge of secondary school / FE education sectors. (D)

*       Experience with Salesforce or other CRM or database which manages people and project information. (D)

 

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:

*       A good knowledge and understanding of the NCS programme. (E)

*       Ability to relate to young people from a wide range of backgrounds and engage them in meaningful activities. (E)

*       To have a good knowledge of the local community (D)

*       An understanding of safeguarding and health and safety in a youth work setting. (E)

*       A proven ability to work to under pressure to tight deadlines. (E)

*       A commitment to supporting young people, and the principles of equality and diversity. (E)

*       Self-motivated and the ability to work on own initiative. (E)

*       Excellent communication skills including written, telephone and interpersonal skills. (E)
