Chicago Fire FC is Chicago’s ambassador to the global sport of football. Founded in 1997, and competing in Major League Soccer, Chicago Fire won its first championship in its debut season and was foundational in the careers of several current MLS coaches and players, as well as International and UEFA Champions League coaches.

Chicago Fire FC is searching for a Software Developer for the club’s Football Analytics department. The Software Developer will build and maintain internal systems and solutions to foster a data-rich environment and to support decision-making for all aspects of football operations. The developer will collaborate closely with members of football operations, to understand their needs and drive the design and development of software solutions. As the first engineering hire on the team, the developer will be responsible for decisions that shape the technical direction of the department.
Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain internal web applications for football operations personnel
Collaborate with users to determine requirements for new features and tools
Document code and systems thoroughly
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
2+ years of software development experience
Experience building web applications
Proficiency with object-oriented programming languages and concepts and an ability to write lean code
Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server
Exposure to cloud computing, storage, warehousing, and serverless web applications on AWS
Experience with software development tools and processes– source control, code reviews, agile development
An understanding of football and desire to learn about football analytics
Familiarity with data engineering tools and architectures
Strong user empathy, and a willingness to work directly with stakeholders
An interest in machine learning model building and deployment
