The Director of Community Engagement will focus on enhancing and extending emotional connections with all members of USL communities. A key player in strategic content, marketing, and business operations, the Director of Community Engagement provides oversight and stewardship for reaching new audiences and further developing a bond with existing fans. This position will also develop and enhance the efforts and initiatives that support USL and member clubs’ position in the community while collaborating with internal departments and key external stakeholders to integrate social impact and brand-strengthening culture and lifestyle elements into core decision-making and messaging on a local and national scale.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Develop and oversee the organization’s long-term social, lifestyle and cultural marketing strategy including positioning, unique value propositions, voice, image, and target audience.
Improve brand awareness for USL properties with a focus on building an emotional connection with fans and participants, both current and new by collaborating with the Corporate Communications and the broader Digital Marketing teams to showcase partner success stories to drive USL and partner relevance.
Drive and execute activations geared towards strategically growing fan engagement year-round, with a heavy focus on delivering meaningful fan value via initiatives in the social, cultural, and lifestyle space, such as Forever Proud, United Against Racism and gender equity initiatives.
Foster relationships with a variety of partners, including fan groups, media, influencers, and alumni, to grow and deepen the organization’s reputation and engagement with key segments.
Closely partner with our Supporter Intelligence team to educate internal and external partners about our fans by exploring relevant insights, behavioral trends and opportunities.
Collaborate with standing internal DE&I committees – IMPACT and IDEA – to ensure organizational social impact goals are achieved nationally and locally.
Collaborate with internal groups to innovate and create concepts, programs, campaigns, and content aimed at engaging fans and carrying integrated messaging to key fan segments.
Work closely with professional clubs and Club Services; enabling clubs to meet their commercial and community enrichment objectives by providing them with appropriate tools, materials and expert knowledge.
Along with internal stakeholders, create, implement, track annual and per campaign goals to strengthen engagement and support within USL communities.
Partner with internal staff on qualitative analysis and preparation of reports reflecting initiative impact and performance.
Maintain a deep understanding of industry trends within the broader sports and entertainment and consumer marketing landscape.
Manage completion of Master Service Agreements and Scopes of Work with industry partner legal and compliance teams and USL legal counsel.

Bachelor’s Degree in public or media relations, marketing or advertising, communications, journalism or related field.
5+ years related experience in Community Relations, Community Engagement, Content Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Branding or related field.
Experience engaging with multiple, diverse cultures and communities on behalf of a single property is required.
Experience with or at a professional league, team or sports property is preferred.
A strong understanding of the culture of soccer and its fans across North America is highly preferred.
Bilingual (fluent in English and Spanish) is preferred.
Strategic vision, and the ability to clearly articulate and successfully translate strategy into results.
Strong planning skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities.
Strategic and critical thinker who is dynamic, forward thinking, extremely analytical and well organized.
Self-confident, resilient and possess a high energy level and enthusiasm.
Ability to work cooperatively with community leaders, advocacy groups and players, fans and the media.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members, executives, member clubs, and external partners.
Ability to work independently in a multi-faceted, fast, fluid, and deadline-driven environment.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic a must.
Ability to work as business needs require which may include long days, evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel if / when necessary.
Must have U.S. work authorization.
