Job Title: Vice President, Marketing and Communications
Reports To: President
FLSA Status: Exempt
San Diego Loyal SC is a USL Championship franchise currently in playoff contention being managed by Landon Donovan. An expansion club that launched in 2020, Loyal SC is looking for a Vice President of Marketing and Communications to help develop its long-term vision for the franchise and the San Diego region. With an exceptional staff and supportive ownership, SDLSC is creating a first-class professional sports franchise while also helping to elevate the city. The ideal candidate will be Loyal to Team, Game and City. This position is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and will report directly to the Club President.
Develops, coordinates, and directs all marketing, messaging, and communications, to create passionate and raving fans. Position leads marketing strategy for club including branding, campaigns, digital marketing, social media, PR, and audience engagement. This position is also responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, training, and managing all marketing functions to achieve the company objectives and helping fulfill the vision of the Club.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Member of leadership team and integral part of organizational decisions and strategic growth.
Responsible for devising and delivering on a marketing plan. This includes researching, analyzing, writing, and implementing strategic plan for the club to the budget.
Provides leadership for all communications, marketing, creative design, branding, digital, and PR.
Help manage third-party relationships including marketing or advertising agencies.
Measures effectiveness of the marketing programs, optimizes and implement improvements.
Leads or works with agency on media buying plan and placement of all advertising.
Overseas all branded collateral including but not limited to ads, signage, promotional items, digital assets and consults on uniform and merchandise design.
Oversees all social media and online engagement and drives strategy behind the tone, voice and growth of these platforms. Supports staff in its implementation.
Oversees all website and digital strategies including website content, contests and the sites “look and feel.” Supports staff in its implementation.
Maintains database of corporate, media and industry influencer contacts.
Works with VP of Partnerships to co-create assets, build relationships, tell stories that help our partners and the club as well as ensure partner deliverables.
Develops and manages department budgets.
Supervises Marketing, Content and Communications and Broadcast department staff members including the hiring, coaching, counseling, performance management, growth and development.

Education and/or Experience
BA/BS in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Management and/or related 10-years related field experience required. Would prefer they have at least 2-years of experience working in professional sports, entertainment, or events; Experience working with agencies or third-party consultants. Experience in media and events preferred. Passion for sports and San Diego essential.
Must have experience managing, training and inspiring direct reports. Thrives in team environments.
Leadership and Strategic Thinking
Passionate about being a team player. Strong strategic problem-solving skills required. Strong cross-functional project management and presentation skills. Demonstrable leadership abilities in changing, ambiguous and challenging situations. Excellent strategic instincts and collaborative skills. Can think high level but also work tactically.
Proficient in all Microsoft Office products including, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Ability to use Adobe products and a CRM a bonus. Must be proficient and experienced using basic social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Writing and Presentation Skills
Outstanding writing skills required, including experience writing press releases and similar media communications, and ability to create proposals and presentations. Comfortable, confident, friendly on-camera presentation skills.
