Position Description

Reporting directly to the WNT General Manager and the WYNT Head Coach will be responsible for educating, equipping, and developing our top talents through age-appropriate, skill-building approaches with the goal of grooming players to play for our Senior National Teams. This role requires the implementation of coaching expertise, excellent in-person and remote communication skills, and collaboration with peers in identifying, selecting, developing, and transitioning talents through the pathway.

 

Primary Responsibilitie

  • Reports to the General Manager
  • Collaborates with the General Manager and the Director of Technical Development to create the best environment for our players
  • Serves as the Head Coach of the U-20 Women’s Youth National Team (WYNT) and may assist other Youth National Teams as needed
  • Works to support a high performance environment for the Women’s Youth National Team
  • Works with the elite soccer players of our country, from experienced players to young high potentials
  • Commits to the mission, objectives, and policies of U.S. Soccer
  • Implements a clear strategy that corresponds with the U.S. Soccer’s mission and Style of Play
  • Implements the education of positional responsibilities and integrates practiced routines to breed automaticity
  • Contributes to talent identification and scouting in a variety of capacities

Works collaboratively with staff members to implement and execute U.S. Soccer’s Mission, Objectives, Strategy, and Tactics (MOST)

  • Creates a team identity based on the U.S. Soccer Technical Plan
  • Works together in creating a plan with development and performance goals throughout with short- and long-term goals
  • Coaches NT players and selects the WNT roster in collaboration with staff members
  • Has a comprehensive understanding of the player pool
  • Manages the player roster and positional depth chart
  • Supports and collaborates with Youth Teams creating positional profiles for depth development and integrated alignment between our National Teams
  • Complete goal setting and performance review discussions with staff on an annual basis 

Manages the performance environment 

  • Oversees the development and performance environment for players and staff
  • Creates the conditions for an optimal on and off-the-field performance for players, coaches, and staff
  • Evaluates the performance environment and offers areas of improvement on realistic, achievable objectives
  • Emphasizes the self-responsibility and fosters accountability of players, coaches, and staff in creating the best working relationship amongst teammates and staff

Minimum Qualifications 

  • USSF “A” License or higher
  • At least five years of coaching experience with relevant ages
  • Youth National Team experience is highly recommended
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills: manages and leads self and others 
  • Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication combined with a professional demeanor
  • Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission 
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) and Video Editing

Location and Travel

  • Will work at the headquarters of U.S. Soccer in Chicago when not traveling
  • Able and willing to travel up to 75% of the year  
  • Able and willing to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed

  • Coaching education experience

  • Willingness to support WYNT programming efforts of others
  • Thorough institutional knowledge of U.S. Soccer’s mission, goals, technical plan, policies, practices, and procedures
