Job Description

Port Vale Football Club has an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the club as a Performance Analysis Intern to support the work of the clubs analytical and recruitment departments for the 2021/22 EFL season.

The Performance Analyst Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks across the two departments and will get hands on experience working with key industry techniques and software.

This exciting opportunity will suit current BSc or MSc students, recent graduates or any keen follower of football with ambitions to work within the industry providing they have the necessary commitment and work rate towards the role.

Remuneration: Unpaid – this is a voluntary role

Hours of Work: Flexible; hours to be suited around applicants situation (likely to include weekend and evening work)

Reporting to: First Team Performance Analyst, First Team Recruitment Analyst

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Filming of training and matches
  • Compiling opposition packs
  • Watching and clipping opposition games
  • Producing set play and penalty documents
  • Producing individual player analysis clips
  • Providing organisational and logistical support to the coaching staff
  • Assisting the recruitment department with player recruitment tasks

Desirable personal skills and qualifications

Whilst this is an opportunity for the successful applicant to gain hands on experience, any candidate who possesses any of the following criteria will enhance their chances in the application process:

  • Previous experience in providing performance analysis support in football
  • Previous experience filming and coding games and/or training sessions
  • Previous experience using analysis software (Hudl, Wyscout, Statsbomb) or associated IT products (Microsoft Office, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie, Final Cut)
  • A sound understanding of football and the key technical and tactical concepts within the game
  • Attention to detail and an ability to communicate their ideas in both verbal and written formats
  • An undergraduate/postgraduate degree in a sports related subject (2:2 or above)
