Youth Inclusion Support Officer

Department:  Saints Foundation

Accountable to: Youth Inclusion Coordinator

Hours: Full Time

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract (2 years)

What is the role?

This position will be responsible for the delivery of projects Saints Switching Play and Premier League Kicks within the Involvement projects pillar.

The purpose of this role is to focus on the personal development of young people aged 8-18, to improve aspirations and encourage behaviour change, resulting in positive life choices.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a proactive and motivated person who has experience working with young offenders or hard to reach young people, and who wants to help our community. A person with excellent communication skills and to be a good role model, project positive health and wellbeing messages.  

The competencies which are required include:

Essential Experience:

  • Experience in working with young people, within youth engagement interventions.  
  • Experience delivering targeted interventions with young offenders or hard to reach young people. 
  • Ability to engage positively with hard to reach groups & effectively deal with situations of a challenging nature.
  • A knowledge of M&E programmes relevant to the industry sector.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience of developing partnerships with statutory agencies.
  • Have a good understanding of the key youth services in Southampton and be able to signpost young people to them.  
  • Experience in Line Management of full-time and casual staff members.

Essential Qualifications (including certifications):

  • Youth Worker level 2 qualification or equivalent.  

Desirable Qualifications (including certifications):

  • Relevant youth work qualification/experience.
  • Hold a degree in the relevant subject area.
  • Youth Worker level 3 qualification or equivalent.
  • UKCC Level 1 or 2 in a specific sport.

Essential Skills:

  • An understanding of the challenges faced by young people living in priority neighbourhoods in the city.
  • Ability to engage positively with hard to reach groups.  
  • Ability to be a good role model and project positive health and wellbeing messages.  
  • An applied knowledge of safeguarding policy and practice.  
  • Good communication and organisational skills.  
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Demonstrate a proven track record of monitoring & evaluating project outcomes.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practices relevant to the provision of the project.
