Job Description

The Premier League leads the development and implementation of the Elite Player Performance Plan (‘EPPP’), the long-term strategy designed to create the world’s leading youth development system. With the collaboration of Clubs, the EFL, the Football Association and other stakeholders, the EPPP aims to provide outstanding learning environments that produce more and better home-grown players and positive development outcomes for all. 

To support these objectives, the Premier League is looking to appoint an Operations and Projects Manager to support the planning, delivery and ongoing improvement of work across the different areas of delivery. The successful candidate will enjoy collaborating with multiple stakeholders as part of a team, approach challenges with a solutions-focused attitude and have a keen eye for enhancing operational processes.

Key responsibilities

The role will be responsible for maximising the effectiveness of department operations and project delivery across the key areas of Youth Development.  The successful candidate will contribute to a varied portfolio of initiatives, supporting or leading on new project work as required.  This will include important contributions towards the Premier League’s work on equality, diversity and inclusion data and COVID-19 testing operations. 
 
Accountabilities: 
Below are the key areas that the role holder is responsible for.  KPIs / targets / objectives for individuals within the role will be set in relation to these areas:
  • Work closely with the Youth Programmes Manager on the development and enhancement of operations and delivery across the department including the design, implementation and reporting of key projects/workstreams
  • Support the alignment of business and department strategic objectives with day to day operations and delivery
  • Play an important role in the ongoing delivery of existing initiatives such as (but not limited to): 
    • Club Staff EDI data collection and reporting
    • COVID-19 testing operations and access control 
    • Academy Games Programme monitoring
    • Club quality assurance / measurement
    • Academy Players / Parents communication via the Player App
  • Maximise current and future partnerships with 3rd party suppliers to enhance the delivery of requirements and value 
  • Support budgeting and cost management across workstreams 
  • Liaise with the Premier League Legal team on related matters including data protection and contracts
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of department procurement processes including tender processes
  • Lead the initiation, planning and delivery of new projects as required 
  • Work with other Premier League departments to share progress, ensure alignment and maintain good communication 
  • Liaise with key Club, EFL and FA staff on related workstreams 
  • Report progress regularly to internal staff

Requirements for the role

Essentials
  • A strong background in operations, project management and / or project office support
  • Demonstrable ability to contribute to positive change in business delivery
  • Highly motivated to deliver all work to a high standard and continue to improve and develop
  • Technology and data savvy with an ability to draw on past experiences and examples of key contributions to related projects
  • Strong communicator who is comfortable leading and supporting as part of a team
  • An understanding of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) and operations of a sports organisation
  • Comfortable working independently and effective at communicating risks, issues and decisions at the right time
  • High level emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage stakeholder relationships appropriately
Nice-to-haves for the role
  • Previous experience in a Club or sports organisation
  • Project management qualification
  • Understanding of the principles of elite development in a football environment.
  • Experience with COVID-19 business impact and mitigations
