Job Description

The Premier League is responsible for the development of the Professional Game coaching workforce in partnership with the Professional Game partner organisations (PL, FA, EFL, PFA, LMA) via the ongoing delivery of the Integrated Coaching Strategy (ICS.) The Premier League have developed a long-term strategic plan named the Elite Coaching Plan (ECP) with the goals of; 1) Elevating the quality of the English Coaching system and; 2) Changing the global perception of the English Coaching system. 

Key responsibilities

The purpose of the role is to lead on the Coaching Support provided to Clubs and Coaches across the player pathway. The right candidate will focus specifically on engagement and development opportunities with coaches working within the Academy and First Team. They will work closely with the current Coaching Manager in a wide range of Premier League and multi-stakeholder strategic projects and programmes, and will support the vision of developing A World-Leading Coaching Development System, along with the continued development of more and better Home-Grown players. They will work closely with other Premier League Football Department staff and football partner organisations and Clubs. The work will be varied, but will include the following: 
 
Key Function
  • To lead on the coaching support and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) provided to Premier League Clubs and Coaches in addition to the programmes and schemes delivered by the Premier League
  • To provide specific support to Premier League development programmes and projects ensuring that the coaching development provision supports both player development and coach development
  • Lead on a number of Premier League and multi-stakeholder projects and programmes, including liaison with all Premier League Clubs and key partners in the professional game 
  • Be a member of the Coaching Team and represent the Premier League in relation to Coaching matters with Clubs and other football partners where relevant and required.
 
Coaching Support
  • To lead on the coaching support provided to coaches and Clubs across the player pathway. Identify opportunities for working with other game partners and internally to provide this provision
  • To support future-proofing the coaching support provision, ensuring that we are constantly preparing for what the game, coaching development and player development looks like in the future
  • To identify relevant CPD required for coaches working with Premier League and Category One Clubs and lead on the provision provided
  • To work in collaboration and connect with what is being delivered from the technical / tactical led by the Football Association (FA), and the Premier League coach development programmes
  • To lead regular coach engagement with Coaches and Clubs within the Academies, and develop and lead on the engagement of annual meetings with Senior First Team Coaching Staff
  • To support on the delivery of Premier League Coaching and Coach development programmes and schemes
  • Work with Club Support staff and other professional game partners to support the clubs with the delivery of action plans for the annual assessment from the Professional Game Academy Audit Company (PGAAC) 
Professional Game Relations
  • To develop and maintain key relationships with professional game partners and Clubs to support the development of coaching and the coaching system within the professional game 
  • Establish and identify key partners to engage and work with on specific projects and initiatives 
  • To be the liaison between the Coaching Team and allocated Premier League Clubs on matters relating to coaching and coach development, plus engaging and communicating with the relevant Academy and Club Support staff regarding these four clubs
  • Represent the Premier League in relation to Coaching matters with Clubs and other professional game partners where and when required
 
Project and Partnerships
  • To develop and maintain key relationships with internal and external partners including professional game partners, Clubs and other professional bodies to support the provision of coaching support 
  • To play a key role within the development and delivery of Premier League and Professional Game Partner Conferences
  • To work closely with the Games Programme Team to integrate coaching support within the range of tournaments / events offered to the Clubs across the player pathway
  • To support on the development and delivery of projects within ICS
  • To work closely with the Professional Game Audit Company (PGAAC) and the Youth Department to develop and review the rules implemented for coaching and coach development
  • To provide support and delivery on professional game partner programmes and qualifications (FA, UEFA, LMA, PFA, EFL) when required
  • To play a key role in wider coaching matters across the department including the leading on focus areas, development and delivery of projects within the ECP 

Key responsibilites

Essentials
  • Experience working within Professional Academy and/or First Team Male and/or Female Football Club Environments
  • Experience of supporting the development of people / coaches through CPD activities
  • UEFA A Licence (or equivalent Level 4 coaching qualification)
  • Understanding of the principles of Youth Development in a football and/or other Elite Sports environments
  • Experience of stakeholder management
  • High level communication (oral and written) skills 
  • High level emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills 
  • High level planning and organisational skills 
  • IT literate  
  • DBS clearance – to be obtained via Premier League, prior to job offer 
  • Possess a full driving licence as frequent travel will be required 
Nice-to-haves
  • Undergraduate degree or higher
  • Experience of being a Head of Coaching / Coach Developer within Professional Football
  • UEFA Pro Licence
  • FA Advanced Youth Award
  • Teaching degree or equivalent
  • Experience using data / insights to support coaching
