Job Description

Title: Content Producer – Owned Channels

Reporting to: Content Manager – Owned Channels (The FA)

 

To plan, produce and distribute industry-leading editorial content across The FA’s websites, publications and owned products.

Requirements

Key accountabilities:

 

· Planning written content for The FA’s platforms (TheFA.com, EnglandFootball.com, BarclaysFAWSL.com, The FA Player) in line with wider content plans across all owned and operated channels

· Producing editorial content, including sourcing of potential stories/articles and conducting interviews where necessary

· Reacting to breaking news to produce quick-turnaround articles

· Working with The FA’s in-house social media team and appointed agencies on a strategy to attract users onto websites with the aim of increasing the number of returning visitors

· Producing original editorial content that positions The FA’s websites as leading destinations for long-form written articles

· Supporting The FA’s communications team in sub-editing press releases and uploading them to our websites, ensuring they have been made relevant for a direct-to-audience

· Using SEO to ensure that our websites – and the pages within them – rank highly for relevant search queries

· Ensuring ‘evergreen’ content on our websites is up-to-date and accurate

· Facilitating the upload of key documents and updates to non-editorial website copy

· Writing content for The FA’s official publications (i.e. match programmes)

· Supporting the Content Manager - Owned Channelsin proof-reading The FA’s official publications (i.e. match programmes)

· Interrogating analytics software to produce actionable insights on content performance, sharing such recommendations with other members of the team and stakeholders

· Working as part of a team covering live matches, including on weekends and evenings

· Forming part of cross-functional working groups to ensure our content supports wider business objectives

· Supporting The FA’s broadcast team in delivering value to our official broadcast partners by signposting opportunities to watch matches on linear and digital television – both domestically and internationally

· Working on content that promotes The FA’s commercial partners in a way that will engage, entertain and inform our fans and followers

 

The Candidate

 

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following skills and attributes:

 

Essential Skills:

  • Strong evidence of creating engaging, entertaining and informative editorial content

  • Clear understanding of the modern digital publishing landscape, including emerging trends and future opportunities

  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal

  • A strong storytelling ability and news sense

  • Proficient user of website content management systems (e.g. Sitecore)

  • Previous experience in a professional sports environment

  • Knowledge of website analytics, including key metrics and how to use them to measure performance

  • Ability to produce and share short-, medium- and long-term content plans

  • Experience of working as part of a multi-functional team to achieve      mutual aims and organisational objectives

  • Thorough knowledge of football, in particular the England national      teams, Emirates FA Cup and women’s game

  • Flexible approach to working hours and locations

Desirable Skills:

  • Journalism background and qualification (e.g.  NCTJ)

· Experience of working for a brand or publisher

· Strong understanding of social media

· Proficient user of image-editing software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop)

· Proficient user of video-editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro)

Salary:  Commensurate based on experience

Holiday:  20 days (increasing by one day per year of service, to maximum 25 days)
