Full time Data Science

Job Description

The Company

Football Radar is an exciting company which is disrupting the football analytics industry. For over ten years we have successfully developed football analytical frameworks and statistical models, and as a result we have become a market leader in providing data and football odds for the betting industry.

The company was founded with one clear vision in mind: to become the number one experts on football. With a unique approach that combines statistical modelling with innovative data collection and subjective input from highly skilled analysts, we believe that we can continue to take our understanding of the game to new levels.

As we've expanded we have found it important to uphold the principles that drove us in the first place and for us football is still a passion as well as a job. We see ourselves as an interesting mix of start-up and established business with the flexibility of the former and the security of the latter.

We have an exciting opportunity for a senior data scientist to join our team and help us uncover new football insights to push our models further and stay at the forefront of our industry.

The Role

As a senior data scientist in our data science team, you will have the opportunity to lead  a variety of projects across different areas of our business, working cross functionally with both engineers and with our teams of football experts. We are first and foremost a football company, and to have a big impact here, you will need not only technical skills, but also domain expertise – you will probably be a big football fan, and ideally someone who has worked with sports statistics before. We are looking for someone with a good product sense: you should be able to think strategically and set your own direction. You need to be able to make good decisions even when there is a lot of ambiguity, understanding the trade-offs of different approaches.

What you’ll do

  • Proactively explore our data and perform analyses to help us find areas we can improve
  • Work collaboratively with both the Data Science team and the wider business to help Football Radar make the right business decisions
  • Autonomously undertake research projects focused on both short-term and long-term goals
  • Manage your own projects, showing good judgment on key project management decisions
  • Communicate your results to both technical and non-technical audiences

What you’ll bring

  • A track record of applying data science techniques to help organisations make decisions
  • A solid understanding of the fundamentals concepts of statistics and data science. You don’t need to be an expert in any one area, but you do need a broad awareness of what tools and techniques are available and the trade-offs in each of them
  • An experienced programmer (we are using Python for most things, but prior experience with Python isn’t essential), with good knowledge of SQL
  • Experience of deploying predictive models to production (ideally using AWS or another cloud environment)
  • Excellent communication skills – you should have a history of communicating technical ideas to non-experts
  • Curious and keen to learn
  • An ability to work collaboratively with a team

What we offer

  • Competitive salary that is reviewed regularly, with an annual bonus option
  • 33 days holiday (includes bank holidays)
  • Competitive contribution match pension
  • Flexible hours and working conditions
  • Choice of your own development kit
  • Paid learning and development opportunities
  • Fully subsidised private medical insurance + health checks
  • Subsidised luxury gym membership
