The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting function of the Columbus Crew organization. This role is involved in financial planning, forecasting, budgeting and risk management of the organization in addition to having management responsibility for the accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger functions. This position must work closely with key management positions to provide financial analysis in the form of departmental budgets, financial modeling relative to key existing and/or new business initiatives, contract analysis, business development and process review and engineering. This position is one of the primary liaisons for external auditors, tax advisors and MLS financial representatives. The Accounting Manager is also expected to have significant involvement in treasury management, debt management and reporting, and matchday reporting and analysis for ticketing, retail and concessions. Finally, the individual in this role is expected to work closely with the Director to monitor and implement new accounting standards and practices to ensure that the organization is GAAP compliant.
Assist with the compilation and analysis of the annual financial budget for the organization including periodic re-forecasting exercises throughout the year.
Publish monthly financial reports by department and work with department managers to analyze budget vs. actual variances.
Manage the Accounts Payable function (receipt of vendor invoices, obtaining proper approval, processing of payment, etc.)
Manage the Invoicing and Accounts Receivable functions (generating invoices timely and in accordance with contract provisions, monitoring collection status, processing of cash receipts, etc.)
Manage the Fixed Asset function (evaluating justification of expenditure, tracking of multi-component projects, capitalization policies, book and tax depreciation tables, etc.)
Oversee accounting policies, practices and tracking of all other balance sheet and P&L general ledger accounts.
Assist with the compilation of quarterly debt covenants and other bank reporting requirements.
Assist with the compilation of MLS reporting requirements (annual TFR, sponsorship revenue reports, ticket policy compliance reports, etc.)
Lead the annual external financial statement audit engagement.
Assist in the review and filing of state and local tax returns, as prepared by
external tax advisor.
Assist the Director in establishing accounting policies and procedures to improve organizational efficiency and internal controls.
Work closely with the Director to monitor and implement new accounting standards to ensure that the organization is GAAP compliant.
Assist with other projects for the Cleveland Browns and HSG as requested.
Ideal candidate will possess 3-6 years experience in accounting and/or finance, 3-5 years of public accounting experience preferred.
Proven management, leadership, and analytical skills are a must. Excellent
communication skills are required as this person will deal with all levels of internal personnel, external auditors, outside partners, League personnel and other various Finance associates.
