Job Description

Purpose of the Job:

 

To provide daily management and strategic communications leadership. To give direction and operational delivering enabling the Ipswich Town Football Club brand to thrive, whilst promoting and protecting the reputation of the football club.

 

 

Key Elements:

 

The Head of Media and Communications must have the ability to lead and empower a team of staff. Whilst setting strategy is key, there will be a requirement to personally undertake wide ranging tasks. This will include working long and unsociable hours. The ability to both influence internal and external stakeholders is key, along with the ability to work under pressure, whilst being an effective communicator.

 

Main Duties of the Jobholder:

 

  • To develop and implement an industry leading communications strategy for Ipswich Town Football Club.
  • To protect the reputation of Ipswich Town Football Club through robust and effective management procedures.
  • To advise the Board, Chief Executive, Manager, Coaches and other members of Ipswich Town Football Club on internal and external communications.
  • To lead, develop and construct the Ipswich Town Football Club Communications Team.
  • To be a senior leader representing Ipswich Town Football Club within the senior management team.

General Responsibilities:

 

  • To constantly appraise and improve the communications strategy to ensure it continues to be innovative and industry leading.
  • To ensure the Chief Executive, Manager, Coaches and other senior members of Ipswich Town Football Club are kept fully appraised and briefed of any relevant issues which may affect the reputation of the Club.
  • To develop the Ipswich Town Football Club Communications team as individuals and as a collective.
  • To oversee and produce PR content relating to major campaigns such as season ticket launch, player signings and significant stories regarding the Club.
  • Continually review potential risk for Ipswich Town Football Club and develop a suitable issue management procedure.
  • To support the CEO and Head of Commercial in managing and aligning sponsors’ activation with the communications strategy .
  • Build positive working relationships with external media, clubs and football governing bodies.
  • To develop and manage a media relations programme for Ipswich Town Football Club.

Experience:

 

  • Football industry experience and knowledge is an advantage.
  • Commercial environment experience is valuable.
  • Senior leadership team experience.
  • Sporting club environment.
  • Digital Platform knowledge.
  • Experience in presenting to camera.
  • Profile/brand building.
  • Crisis management.
