Job Description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Head of Department, Football Science and Medicine or assigned, the Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Coach will work closely with the Football Fitness Coach and FAS Coaches to optimise the physical and fitness capacity of National footballers. The Strength & Conditioning Coach will establish and implement fitness, strength and conditioning programmes for the respective National Teams in consultation with the Football Fitness Coach or assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Operational

  • Develop, conduct and implement strength and conditioning programmes for National teams by:
    • Measuring, examining and assessing players’ and teams’ physical and fitness capacity and capability.
    • Report and interpret testing results timely to coaches and athletes, and assist coaches to make practical use of the results.
    • Planning and implementing appropriate fitness and conditioning programmes according to training and match requirements.
    • Monitoring progress of players’ and teams’ fitness and physical status.
    • Communicating and updating relevant sports science and medical professionals, team officials and coaches on the progress and outcome of players’ and teams’ physical and fitness status.
  • Plan, implement and conduct post-training and post-matches recovery programmes for assigned teams.
  • Assist with injury prevention and performance enhancement programmes of the National Team/s through:
      • Injury surveillance and documentation.
      • Recommending and providing updated scientific information of specific football injuries and injury prevention strategies and performance enhancement strategies.
      • Educating players and coaches on injury prevention and management strategies, including physical performance enhancement programmes and strategies.
  • Working and liaising closely with other sports scientists and medicinal personnel appointed by FAS in areas of nutrition, exercise physiology, rehabilitation among others for support of the teams’ physical training requirements, recovery needs and injury prevention strategies.
  • Assist with planning and promoting safe and healthy football sports.
  • Work closely with football medicine professionals to provide specific rehabilitation and conditioning programmes for injured players.

2. Strategic

  • Assist with planning, designing, organising and conducting Continue Education courses for FAS coaches, officials, exercise scientists and other relevant personnel in the areas of football fitness, strength and conditioning.
  • Lead research, development and innovation initiatives in S&C and other related areas of sport sciences.
  • Provide on-field coverage for selected training and matches of National Team/s (including overseas assignments).

3. Administrative

  • Assist with the administration of the FAS S&C facilities by ensuring cleanliness, all equipment are accounted for and maintenance schedules kept.
  • Assist with the administrative and programming aspects of internship programmes.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned.

4. Education

  • To develop and deliver educational materials, as well as to educate coaches, athletes and students through the means of workshops and courses.
  • To teach, mentor and supervise interns and trainees attached to Football Association of Singapore.


We are looking for individuals who are committed to the sporting success in high performance sport.

In addition, an ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Academic qualification in Physical Education, Sport Science, Strength and Conditioning or equivalent.
  • Preferably with Certified strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (Level 2) certification.
  • At least 3 years of working experience as a Strength and Conditioning Coach, with strong background in the application of progressive, evidence-based S & C support to individual athletes, teams and coaches, in a high-performance sporting environment.
  • Good background knowledge and understanding of other sport science disciplines such as physiology, nutrition, exercise/sport rehabilitation, and biomechanics.
  • Ability to lead a team.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, effective negotiation and consultation skills open and dedicated to engaging in respectful and effective relationship building with stakeholders from diverse sports and backgrounds.
  • Ability to educate and motivate athletes and coaches to embrace scientific support
  • High levels of initiative and responsibility
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness and ability to work unconventional hours and undertake travel.
