Bluefield University has teamed up with Bechler Leadership in the search for their next Head Men's Soccer Coach.

 

DESCRIPTION: Bluefield University invites applications for the position of Head Men’s Soccer Coach, a 10-month, full-time role responsible for providing leadership, vision, and direction for all aspects of the Men’s Soccer program. The coach is expected to promote a program aligned with the Christian mission and values of Bluefield University while fostering competitive excellence, academic achievement, student-athlete development, and fiscal responsibility.

The Head Men’s Soccer Coach reports directly to the Vice President of Student Development and Athletics and will supervise assistant coaches, volunteers, and student workers assigned to the program. Evening, weekend, and travel commitments are required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head Men’s Soccer Coach is responsible for organizing and conducting all practice sessions, instructing and teaching student-athletes, and providing both mentorship and guidance that supports their athletic, academic, and personal development. The coach is expected to ensure that student-athlete conduct during practices, competitions, and team travel aligns with the mission of Bluefield University. 

Administratively, the coach oversees a program that reflects the University’s values, prepares and manages the program’s budget, maintains and inventories equipment, develops the competitive schedule in consultation with the Director of Athletics, ensures compliance with NAIA eligibility and regulatory standards, and works collaboratively with athletic training and medical staff. 

Recruiting responsibilities include identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student-athletes, retaining current team members, maintaining accurate eligibility records, and ensuring all recruiting activities follow University policies and NAIA guidelines. 

Additional responsibilities include communicating match results to media outlets and the Sports Information Director, recommending athletes for awards, completing required reports and documentation, and performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Personal commitment to the Christian mission, purpose, and goals of Bluefield University is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Business, Sports Management, or Exercise & Sports Science preferred.
  • Two to four years of coaching or teaching experience required.
  • Working knowledge of NAIA rules and compliance expectations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and implement work effectively.
  • Basic proficiency with standard office equipment and technology.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to transport student-athletes as needed.

PHYSICAL & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, lift, push, and pull as part of regular coaching duties.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with noise levels ranging from low to moderate.
  • Frequent travel, evening, and weekend work required.
