Part time Coaching Leadership & Management Soccer Coach Youth

Job Description

OBJECTIVE:

The Camp Head Coach will be responsible for leading a team of coaches with the daily technical execution and delivery of camps programming for youth players aged 7 to 14 who possess a wide array of skills and experiences. The Camp Head Coach will oversee the delivery of the club’s curriculum to the expected standards and level of professionalism and provide leadership and mentorship for the camp coaching team at various Lower Mainland locations.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.  Culture & Leadership

·       Champion Safe Sport practices and work closely with the camps coaching team to foster a positive and enriching learning environment for all camp participants

·       Drive the culture of the club and protect the integrity of club’s core values and cornerstones

·       Promote a professional, positive and supportive working environment for camp coaches

 

2. Staff Management & Development

·       Lead a camp coach crew to deliver camp programming to a professional standard

·       Assist the Camp Manager with coach scheduling as required

·       Serve as the first point of contact for any camp coach inquiries

·       Ensure all coaches adhere to the club’s dress code and adhere to policies and standards outlined in the Camp Coach Handbook.

·       Conduct daily on-site briefings with coaching staff pre and post sessions

·       Provide mentorship for all camp coaches

·       Provide support/coverage for the Camp Manager, as required

 

3. Administration

·       Work with the Camp Manger to ensure that camp coaches are briefed daily prior registration reports, player rosters and groupings are prepared ahead of each camp

·       Report any changes to camp registration status to the Camp Manager

 

 4. Camp Equipment & Presentation

·       Lead the daily set up and take down of all camp stations and training areas

·       If required, assist with the delivery of equipment to camp locations each day using a club-provided vehicle

·       Support the distribution of camp t-shirts and giveaway items

·       Lead the camp coaches to assist with the set-up and take down of camp equipment such as tents, flags, tables, signage, etc.

·       Perform a daily inventory of camp equipment and report and missing or broken equipment to the Camp Manager

·       Ensure coaches adhere to the club’s coaching philosophy and curriculum delivery standards

 

  5. Camp Safety & Supervision

·       Ensure that each camp site has a prepared emergency action plan and stocked first aid kit

·       Review the EAP for each camp location to all coaching staff and ensure that all roles are appointed

·       Work closely with the Camp Manager to manage and report and injuries, or other safety concerns.

·       Immediately report any Safe Sport, or other, incidents to the Camp Manager

·       Conduct daily assessments of field location to ensure player and staff safety

·       Educate players about basic safety protocols and ensure that players are held accountable for any breaches

·       Ensure the safety and well-being of all players and provide due care and supervision of all players during sessions.

  

  6. Camp Delivery

·       Manage the delivery of a complete camp day, including camp set up, player greetings, field and technical equipment set up and member services (inquiries, problems solving, etc.)

·       Set up the coaching areas to ensure that the strongest coaches are highlighted for observers

·       Ensure that camp coaches follow the set curriculum and session plans, and camp timing

·       Manage the camp schedule, rotations, and timing of groups/stations/activities

·       Monitor/adjust as required camp player groupings to ensure that they are balanced and provide a safe, fun and optimal learning environment for all players

·       Support, mentor and evaluate camp coaches

·       Provide feedback to leadership related to best practice, innovative ideas, curriculum adjustments, etc.

·       Provide on-field coaching support in a leadership/mentorship capacity, or as desired.

·       Motivate, lead, and manage a group of camp participants.

·       Serve as a positive role model for sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork.

·       Deliver clear, enthusiastic, and age-appropriate communication.

·       Work to build a positive and trusting rapport with all camp participants

·       Provide camp participants with constructive feedback and instructions.

·       Create a fun, inclusive, and encouraging environment.

·       Maintain a schedule and manage time efficiently.

·       Create a fun and positive learning environment for players

·       Utilize coaching methods and strategies to ensure age/stage appropriateness

 

7. Member Services

·       Serve as the point of contact for inquiries and feedback from camp participants

·       Support with the integration of special guest appearances and visits made by club employees to camp site.

 

Qualifications/Experience:

 

In addition to bringing a commitment to Vancouver Whitecaps FC vision and values, the ideal candidate will require degrees of demonstrated experience as follows:

  • 5+ years of  experience in a camp/academy setting
  • 2+ years in a technical leadership role
  • Minimum B Diploma/Children's Diploma
  • Ability to obtain WFC/NCCP Safe Sport Training Requirements (paid by Club)
  • A passion and enthusiasm for working with children and youth from all backgrounds and skill levels
  • Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Background Check
