Editorial Content & Communications Manager

Full time Communications & PR Digital Journalism/Content Leadership & Management Media

Job Description

Role Description:

AFC Wimbledon is a professional football club based in South West London playing its home games in a new state of the art stadium, the Cherry Red Records Stadium, opened in August 2021.

The move to our new stadium marked a pivotal point in the club’s history as it returned to its spiritual home at Plough Lane and provides the club with the ability to deliver top level facilities for both matchday and non-matchday events.

AFC Wimbledon are seeking an Editorial Content & Communications Manager to create and oversee all written, video and audio content and communications for the club’s website, channels and publications.

The primary purpose of this crucial role is to lead content creation and curation for the club’s website and app, ensuring both platforms remain up to date, engaging, and aligned with the club's ethos and values.

This includes managing and enhancing the performance of the website through proactive content scheduling, regular audits, and collaboration with our digital platform partner, Urban Zoo, to implement improvements and ensure optimal functionality.

The role also oversees video content (visible here: afcwimbledon.co.uk/videos), photography, and the club’s podcast (afcwimbledon.co.uk/donstv/podcast).

You will produce a wide range of football and non-football editorial content, including: match reports, player/staff interviews, transfer announcements, commercial updates, ticketing/retail launches, and promotion of club and partner initiatives.
In addition to editorial duties, the successful candidate will:

• Act as the main point of contact for Urban Zoo, managing updates, troubleshooting issues, and leading platform improvements.
• Oversee content performance and user experience, using analytics to grow reach, drive engagement, and increase revenue opportunities such as international match streaming and new supporter registrations.
• Ensure contractual and non-contractual media requests are handled professionally to increase exposure for the club, players, and staff.

You’ll work closely with the club’s Content Executive and Broadcast Executive, trusted photographers and videographers, and a group of volunteers contributing to matchday output.

We are seeking an individual with a broad media production skill set and experience in both content and digital platform management, ideally gained within a professional sports environment.

Key attributes include:

• Exceptional copywriting and editorial judgment across football content and club communications.
• Strong video production capabilities (filming, editing, live stream production). Please note: we are unlikely to progress individuals without production ability, as this is a key requirement of the role and content output expectations.
• Experience in CMS management, digital content strategy, and website optimisation.
• Analytical thinking to prioritise and deliver impactful content across platforms.
• Understanding of marketing and commercial content goals.
• Proactive, organised, and comfortable juggling multiple deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Experience with liaising with members of the press (desirable but not essential)
• A team player who embodies the club’s values: togetherness, resilience, and constant improvement.
