Manchester City Football Club is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Academy Doctor to join our elite medical team, with a specific focus on supporting our U9–U16 age groups. This pivotal role is dedicated to delivering outstanding medical care across the Academy pathway, ensuring the health, safety, and performance of our young athletes are supported at every stage. You’ll work closely with our multi-disciplinary team to manage injuries and illnesses, oversee screenings and medical assessments in line with Premier League and UEFA regulations, and provide pitch-side cover at matches and training as required.
The successful candidate will be GMC registered with demonstrable experience in high-performance sport, particularly with youth athletes, and have a strong understanding of the demands of elite football. You’ll be instrumental in injury management, clinical governance, and emergency planning, working under the guidance of the Head Academy Doctor to provide seamless care. Your Impact
1. Provide medical care for all Academy players aged 6 – 23 (including Emerging Talent & Loans players registered to MCFC as requested) and MCWFC players as required through the assessment, investigation and management of injuries and illnesses.
Also to:
• Ensure all players undertake the correct medical assessments and screenings required by FAPL & UEFA.
• Perform pre-signing medicals for MCFC players as required.
2. Provide pitch side cover for and MCFC Academy Games as required.
3. Understanding and managing risk/compliance requirements; Understand and be fully compliant with the protocol of all governing bodies & abide by regulations and activities in scope and be compliant at all times (e.g. GMC, CQC, Premier League, FA, UEFA & UKAD regulations) Ensure all players adhere to and are aware of the FA Anti-Doping Policy & ensure you are aware of your responsibilities relating to the whereabouts of players and who to inform of absences.
4. Assist the physiotherapists in the assessment, treatment plans and diagnosis of injuries, leading on the audit of injuries for Academy as required and holding primary responsibility for providing injury reports to the Head of Sports Medicine by the agreed deadlines.
5. Assist head academy doctor in setting up Emergency Medical Action Plans (EMAP) at all home venues/travelling/training ground for MCFC Academy as required.
6. Attend medical appointments with all players on care pathways plans when required.
7. Connect with peers, acting as an integral and active part of the Academy multi-disciplinary team. Maintain excellent lines of communication with both the Head Academy Doctor and also the Head of Academy Performance Services.
