Job Description

I. POSITION OVERVIEW
Toronto Athletic FC:
At the Toronto Athletic FC (TAFC) Academy, our number one goal is to inspire and foster a
life-long love of the sport in a safe, inclusive, and instructional environment. Our coaches will
instill principles of discipline, fair play, leadership, responsibility, critical thinking, respect,
self-confidence, empathy, hard work, determination, and belonging. A pathway to development
is available for all players to progress through the age groups, learning developmentally
appropriate principles at each stage.


Head Coach for TAFC Academy:
The position of Head Coach at the TAFC Academy is expected to support the Club initiatives
and policies outlined in their employment contract. In addition to leading the specified
age/gender the Head Coach is also required to uphold the following responsibilities:


II. RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Technical:
● Communicate availability to the directors with practice schedules, tournaments, and other
soccer related sessions.
● Attend the required TAFC orientations, trainings, tournaments and other TAC Sports
related activities as outlined by the Academy directors.
● Attend all mandatory education workshops, athletic development sessions, tryouts, parent
meetings and player selection.
● Work alongside other members of the academy and company ex: GoalkeeperCoach.
Assistant coach, Summer camps (grassroots).
● Recruit and maintain the required number of players for the season or session.
● Comply with all Ontario soccer requirements.


2. Player Development:
● Plan and conduct age-appropriate soccer training sessions focusing on skill development,
tactics, and game understanding.
● Coach training sessions two/three (2/3) times weekly.
● Attend all indoor/outdoor games for their assigned age group/gender (team)
● Create player development curriculums in consultation with the Academy’s Technical
Director.
● Foster positive environments for the growth and development of athletes on and off the
field.


3. Administration:
● Adhere to the policies and guidelines of Toronto Athletic FC
● Must notify the Academy’s Directors in advance of any absence from a training session,
game, or meeting. Head coaches must also ensure that coverage for this absence from a
game or training session
● Head coaches are responsible for the administrative duties—i.e. carding, game sheets,
team lists—related to their program.
● Coaches are responsible for email communication, Team snap, and What sapp
communications. Coaches must adhere to TAC policies for proper communication. All
communication must be respectful from coach to staff or parent to coach.
● Coaches are reasonable for the safety of participants and must communicate any safety
concerns or injuries.

 


III. QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience:
● 1-3 years of experience as a soccer coach
● 1-3 years of experience working with children or teens
2. Skills:
● Leader and role model.
● Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) skills.
● Ability to mentor and develop young athletes.
● Clear understanding of holistic player development.
● Professional, approachable, detailed, punctual and organized.
● Able to work in a team environment and promote team culture.

● C-License
● Making Ethical Decisions (MED)
● NCCP Emergency Action Plan
● Rule of Two
● Making Headway (Concussion)
● Respect in Sport
● Standard First Aid (SFA) and CPR-C
● Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
B) Age Specific Certifications
● Learn to Train Online (2015-2012)
● Learn to Train in Person (2015-2012)
● Fundamentals (2015s, 2016s, 2017s)
● Soccer for Life (2011, 2010, 2009 )


IV. COMPENSATION AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications. Room for growth and
development with additional perks. TAFC welcomes applications from people with disabilities
